Dr. Babak Bozorgy

Principal Technical Lead & Team Leader, MWH, now part of Stantec

Dr. Babak Bozorgy is a Chartered Professional Principal Civil/Water Engineer with a PhD in Water Resources Engineering and over 20 years of experience in design of hydraulic structures and wet utilities and water resources planning and management studies in different countries such as Australia, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran. His completed projects vary from master planning, feasibility studies, conceptual, preliminary and detailed design of flood mitigation measures, stormwater drainage schemes, water supply and distribution networks, dams, hydraulic structures, hydropower schemes and irrigation schemes. Babak has published several technical and research papers in major scientific journals and international conferences and taught undergraduate Civil Engineering courses as a university lecturer, including Fluid Mechanics, Hydrology, Hydraulics, Design of Hydraulic Structures, Environmental Engineering and Water and Wastewater Engineering.

Abdelrazig Mohamed

Senior Manager - Civil Infrastructure, Dubai South

Abdelrazig Mohamed has over 20 years of industrial experience served in local and international engineering firms and governmental offices and has been in service for 10 years with Dubai South as a civil infrastructure manager and then senior manager, with major accountability as client end user representative to ensure useful built infrastructure of roads, utilities, sewage treatment and other related assets and utilization management. Prior to this, he worked at Abu Dhabi Oil National Company (ADNOC) during which he was seconded to Daimler–Chrysler and GTZ, for 2 years and Auscon Consultant International as well as the Ministry of Water Resources-Oman for 5 years. Abdel was also involved in the academia and has 7 years spent teaching at the College of Engineering - University of Shajah. He is an author and co-author of several published papers in regional magazines and papers and two large community service environmental studies for Sharjah Municipality. Abdel graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering with an MSc. in Hydrological Design Engineering from Newcastle University in the UK

Dr. Amr Elagroudi

Dr. Amr El-Agroudy is an expert in the area of stormwater management and water resources with 26 years of experience in North America, the UK and the Middle East. He obtained his Ph.D. from Concordia University, Montreal - Canada in 1999 - his M.Sc. from the University of Southampton, UK in 1994 and his B.Sc. from Cairo University in 1989. Dr. El-Agroudy acquired both industrial and academic through working for government departments, leading consulting firms and recognised academic institutions. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Florida, USA and he is currently working as a technical advisor to the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, UAE.

Francois-Xavier Basselot

Francois is a Principal Engineer, with particular expertise in Master planning, feasibility studies as well as Operational Support, Asset Management and Advisory Services. Francois  has been leading Atkins Water team International efforts since 2013. Prior to joining Atkins, Francois has been part of the Veolia Water Senior Management Team in charge of Riyadh City water and wastewater operations on behalf of NWC in Saudi Arabia as well as Operations and Maintenance Director for Veolia Water in the East of France. Francois has a wealth of expertise managing advisory and design projects in the UK, Ireland, Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia.

Nariba Gittens

Water Resources Design Manager, Ch2m

Nariba Gittens is a civil and environmental engineer who specialises in stormwater drainage, water resources management, flood risk management, hydrologic and hydraulic assessment and modelling, hydrometric analysis, land development and road drainage, urban drainage and design management. She is based in Abu Dhabi, and prior to moving to the UAE was based in the UK where she was recognised nationally (UK) as the 2010 Young Consultant of the Year. She has sat on committees for the British Hydrological Society in South West England and Wales. Nariba Gittens is currently CH2M’s Regional Service Lead for Water Resources and Ecosystems Management for the Middle East, North Africa and India

Titia de Mes

Water for Industry & Water Asset Management Leader, Arcadis Middle East

Dr. Titia de Mes is in the field of water and wastewater treatment. During her 16 years of working experience, she has worked as consultant and researcher, mostly in the field of biological wastewater treatment. During her PhD research, she gained in-depth knowledge on the fate of micro-pollutants during wastewater treatment, especially in source-separated black water. Working on "The Accra waste" project with the British construction firm Taylor Woodrow in Ghana, gave her experience in many aspects of international projects and on starting up, operating and optimizing a full-scale wastewater treatment plant for the treatment of municipal wastewater in an overseas environment. Dr. Titia’s skills were further developed broadened during my work at DHV and in my current position in Atkins. So far she has worked in international Teams providing techncial (process) advise, troubleshooting, running pilot-plants, lead designs in China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Ghana, Jordan, Kuwait, Taiwan, Philippines, UAE and Europe.

Eng. Maher Ezzeddine

Head of Land, Water, and Environment Department, SETS

Maher Ezzeddine is a Civil Engineer with over 11 years of experience in large infrastructure projects in Asia and North Africa, particularly in the design of stormwater drainage systems and in the field of hydrology. He has contributed to projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, UAE, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Morocco, Oman and Syria. Maher’s experience in KSA, specifically in the field of hydrology, is demonstrated through his involvement in major strategic projects such as: Haramein High Speed Rail, Mashaer Metro Station, North-South Railway Project, and others.

Maher is currently the Head of the Land, Water and Environment Department at SETSintl and is leading the infrastructure track on King Abdul-Aziz Road Development Project among several other projects.

Maher is also highly proficient in a wide array of hydrology and hydraulic software including but not limited to StormCAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS and Culvert Master.

Eng. Emile Zankoul

Manager of the Design Technology Unit, SETS

Emile Zankoul is a Civil Engineer with experience in large infrastructure projects in the Middle East. His experience covers areas including project management, engineering design and BIM coordination. Emile is currently leading the BIM efforts related to roads and utilities on King Abdul-Aziz Road Development Project.

Emile holds a Master’s Degree in Construction Engineering Management from the American University of Beirut with a research focus on simulation, visualization and optimization of construction operations as well as the application of Information Technology in engineering and construction, including several publications.

Emile has also received several certifications including the LEED Green Associate (from USGBC), Certified Associate in Project Management (from PMI) and has attended an Executive BIM Training administrated by the Stanford University. He is also proficient in several BIM software including Revit, Civil 3D and Navisworks.

Douglas Cousino

He works closely with the Technical Department in tendering and engineering aspects of project proposals as well as client relations. Prior to joining Lane Mideast Contracting LLC, he was the Dean of Academics at Al Ain Men’s College, part of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT). He served in a number of capacities with the HCT over his 24 years with that organization. He managed to always teach several courses per academic year, most frequently Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulics and Engineering Ethics. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Michigan, USA where he practiced for over 15 years before coming to the UAE. Adam Smith

Adam Smith represents Polypipe Middle East, the region’s leading manufacturer of water and waste water management solutions. They are headquartered in Dubai, with production and technical centre facilities serving the Middle East region – Polypipe Group also have a healthy export business from the UK for MEP drainage and pressure systems.
Adam started his professional career in the United Kingdom, upon leaving school trained as a City & Guilds qualified piping engineer, delivering turn-key projects throughout the UK for various SME companies. Adam then migrated into ‘Facilities Management’ side of the construction business with the EMS Group, focused on specialized contracts for large multinational retail clients such as BP, Morrison’s and Bovis Lend Lease amongst others.
Adam then looked towards manufacturing for change in career, securing an opportunity to utilize his technical background, for the Polypipe Group, the UK’s largest plastic piping systems manufacturer. Adam’s role took him to the Middle East early 2010 to develop the interests of the business in various markets, whilst being involved and supporting organizations such as CIBSE, Constructing Excellence and the BRE. Adam is passionate about water and the future of drainage in the region.

Ashwin Nayak

Ashwin Nayak is an environmental engineer with SOMe Engineering Consultants based in Perth (Western Australia), specialising in the interface between sustainable development and water. SOMe’s extensive years of experience in the stormwater industry has led to development of Australia’s leading innovative approaches and methodologies towards stormwater management which generates maximum triple bottom line (3BL) benefits to any given urban centre. In particular, Ashwin and the team at SOMe are pushing boundaries with a source control philosophy to stormwater management.

Stefan Weiss is a Technical Advisor in the Drainage Systems division of Fränkische. His role is to support the export costumers and partner companies by handling the Fränkische systems solutions of our four fundamental challenges: Transportation, Treatment, Storage and Discharge. After his graduation as a Civil Engineer at the University of applied Sciences in Coburg/ Germany, Stefan collected 5 years of experience as a consultant at engineering and planning offices in the field of civil engineering. His activities were mainly project Management and design work of stormwater and sewage systems in Germany. He started his career at Fränkische in 2011. Since then he is doing the technical support which includes calculations and design support as well as technical trainings for the export customers and partner companies to ensure a proper handling of the Fränkische products

Slavco Velickov is Global Sales Director Asset Performance for Bentley Systems. He is responsible for growing the company’s water, wastewater, and stormwater products in the EMEA region and developing new markets and business opportunities with channel partners and added-value resellers. Velickov also leads strategic and research projects for the lifecycle management of water infrastructure during tendering and negotiating phases. Velickov is a chartered engineer with more than 23 years of experience in the water industry developing, financing, and implementing projects. His experience gained from his work in many large-scale and smaller infrastructure projects provides him with the ability to promote and implement industry best practices on key topics such as risk-based asset performance management of aging infrastructure, BIM processes, non-revenue water reduction, wastewater collection and treatment, among others.
